Cal State Fullerton currently provides residence hall and apartment style living for approximately 2,200 students that is safe, clean, and very convenient. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Housing Operations Professional III. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusivity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The Housing Operations Professional III serves as a lead within Housing and Residential Engagement (HRE), overseeing all aspects of the university’s housing application, assignment, and occupancy management processes. Manages the housing management system (StarRez), this position ensures accurate, equitable, and timely housing assignments for all residential students throughout the academic year and summer terms. The Housing Operations Professional III provides work leadership to the Housing Assignments Coordinator and the Administrative Conference Services Coordinator, guiding priorities, workflows, and daily operations related to housing assignments, front desk services, mailrooms, and administrative student staff.

This position works collaboratively with a wide range of campus partners—including Disability Support Services, Basic Needs Services, Athletics, Admissions, International Student Services, and others—to meet specialized housing needs and support the strategic utilization of residential spaces. The Housing Operations Professional III oversees occupancy reporting, system audits, data accuracy, and process optimization to support data-informed decision-making across the department.

In addition, the role contributes to departmental planning, process improvement, policy development, and communications that enhance the resident experience and ensure smooth year-round housing operations. Provides guidance during student concerns, supports institutional emergency response efforts, and assists with major departmental programs such as move-in, move-out, and campus-wide events. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Working independently under general supervision, performs advanced housing operations work and may exercise oversight for certain housing responsibilities. Applies professional knowledge or expertise in organizing housing operations. Demonstrates advanced discernment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions, contributing to the development of housing strategies, and Housing Operations Professional Series – 5 coordination of assignments. Provides program and housing decision advice and ensures compliance with organizational policies and federal, state, and local regulations. In collaboration with management, assesses, formulates, and evaluates programs, policies, and procedures. Decision-making is based on housing operations best practices; substantial housing operations experience; advanced knowledge of relevant federal, state, and local regulations; university policies, processes, and procedures; impact on housing programs; and student needs. Work is performed with minimal oversight focused on ensuring alignment with overall objectives. Handles multiple work priorities and may provide lead work direction with accountability for results.

Thorough and advanced knowledge and understanding of housing operations in order to build and maintain sound policies, processes, and procedures in order to provide excellent services to a diverse campus community. Demonstrated competence in independently applying advanced judgment to resolve difficult and complex problems and issues. Thorough and advanced knowledge and skill in applying and interpreting applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines. Ability to make recommendations for changes based on interpretations and principles of professional practices. Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize, and oversee housing operations, and successfully complete special projects within time and budget constraints. Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, including political acumen to build partnerships and communicate effectively across all employee groups (e.g., faculty, campus and system leadership, administrative staff) in a diverse environment. Ability to effectively present ideas and training. Advanced knowledge of higher education housing operations and management current best practices.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Housing administration and/or housing assignments experience. Ability to effectively lead and oversee housing operations. Ability to cultivate and maintain a positive and productive working atmosphere in the department. Ability to develop cooperative relationships with other University departments. Knowledge of workplace security and safety especially as it relates to live-on, on­ call, after hours duty procedures. Ability to work independently, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform daily and long-range activities. Ability to exercise initiative and establish priorities. Knowledge of department and University policies and procedures in order to effectively support the operation of the department. Ability to monitor departmental budgets. Knowledge of residential management system software applications.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.
