Job description:

The Department of Health is seeking suitably qualified applicants for a Trans-Pacific Surgical Education and Training Registrar (General Surgical) vacancy.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School.  The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

Salary

$131,000 - $183,500 per annum + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging

  • Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
  • Relocation assistance available for approved appointees

Classification

Period of Employment

Fixed term, full time day work, 76 hours (+ 10 hours protected training time) per fortnight commencing 20 January 2025 until 2 February 2026.

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.

Essential Requirements

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer.  The following checks are to be conducted:

1.  Conviction checks in the following areas:

a)  Crimes of Violence

b)  Sex Related Offences

c)  Serious Drug Offences

d)  Crimes involving dishonesty

2.  Identification check

3.  Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
