Responsible for providing individual and group advising to Lehigh prospective and enrolled students. This position supports students throughout their study abroad experience, from exploration through re-entry, works with faculty and staff leaders to manage all aspects of assigned programs and provides overall support to the Director of Study Abroad with regards to related office activity and programming. 1. As a member of the Advising Team, advise on all aspects of Study Abroad throughout the Study Abroad process
*Manage a portion of undergraduate advisees, as determined by the Director of Study Abroad
*Recruit, advise and orient assigned students seeking an international experience; provide comprehensive support and advising before, during and after their experience abroad; counsel and advise students and parents on student preparation and personal needs throughout the experience; respond to student issues while abroad
*Remain informed about Lehigh and partner policy and procedures related to the study abroad process; guide students, families and advisors through the study abroad process
*Remain informed about all program offerings and work to find appropriate program matches for a student based on their academic, personal and career goals
*Liaise with on-campus faculty and host institutions to ensure academic quality, credit transfer and program relevance
*Contribute to collaborative efforts with academic and student affairs departments, faculty, partner universities and outside organizations to ensure a smooth experience for all students
*Organize and review program evaluations and provide feedback to advising team and Study Abroad Office (SAO) director
*Develop and maintain advising materials, as needed
*Serve as back-up member to other staff on the Advising Team

2. As a member of the Lehigh-led Program Management Team, manage a portion of Lehigh-led programs including fiduciary responsibility and accountability
*As a member of the Crisis response team, participate in a rotation in serving as an International Crisis Incident Manager year-round; remain informed about and follow the Emergency Crisis response plan and coordinate all incident needs as needed, and in collaboration with the International Crisis Advisory Group
*Provide administrative and programmatic support for assigned programs; keep Study Abroad staff and program leaders informed of program status and updates
*Liaise between program leaders and stakeholders including Study Abroad Office, student applicants and participants, and external program partners
*Assist program leaders in program development and implementation; assist leaders in coordinating program needs, billing and student application materials
*Has responsibility and fiduciary accountability for assigned program budgets; manage program budgets in compliance with Lehigh policy; counsel program leaders on budget status, needs and policy compliance; analyze detailed financial records to project future income and expenses
*Manage program one card review and oversight, per diem allowances, payroll and benefits and student billing process
*Reconcile program budgets in a timely manner and keep SAO leadership, program leaders and program management team updated
*Manage student participants from enrollment through re-entry
*Provide consul and advice to student and parent inquiry on assigned programs
*Contribute to program marketing planning and execution
*Consult with faculty or staff interested in developing new programs
*Contribute to development and implementation of program management procedures and student application process
*Contribute to collection and preparation of Crisis Management documentation and distribution
*Coordinate efforts with partner offices on campus to facilitate student eligibility review registration, billing, financial aid and overall troubleshooting
*Coordinate with legal counsel on partnerships and agreements for assigned programs

3. Participate and contribute to programming and outreach efforts
*Under the direction of the Director and Associate Director, participate with advising and program management team to develop and implement relevant programming: information sessions, pre-departure orientations, re-entry programming, abroad ambassador program, on-campus events, provider and partner visits to campus, peer contact network program and other programming and events for prospective students, enrolled students and study abroad returnees
*As determined by Study Abroad Director, serve as main liaison to a select group of partner office on campus relating to the portfolio of programs and programming integration efforts
*Contribute to marketing and outreach initiatives both general and program specific

4. Provide overall support to the Study Abroad Office
*Oversight and creation of web content
*Supervise, train and distribute work to Graduate Assistant and work study students
*Work as part of the advising and program management team to manage the overall work in the office; assignments may include: conducting and/or organizing public presentations, hiring, training and supervising students; coordinating study abroad events
*As determined by Director, responsible for projects related to data and statistical report compilation, analysis and presentation
*Participate in ongoing evaluation of program offerings and processes to assure a high quality experience
*Assist in preparing for and/or attending program consortium and advisory committee meetings
*Contributes to database management and related data entry, ensuring database has relevant and up to date information; maintain a complete understanding of study abroad database(s)
*At the direction of Director, participate in site visits and program familiarization trips
*At the direction of Director, accompany Lehigh-led programming abroad programs as a program assistant

The duties of this position may allow the employee to work partially remote as deemed appropriate by their supervisor 

This position has fiscal or financial responsibilities other than employee expense activity, such as processing or approving transactions; monitoring or preparing budgets; or generating income for University

This position is funded by soft dollars; there is no severance associated with this position

As determined/scheduled by the Director of OIP, this position requires both domestic and international travel for professional development and site visits; approximately 2 weeks per year


Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master's degree preferred

Three to five years related work experience; experience living abroad preferred but not required

Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required

Supervisory experience preferred

Ability to build, foster and maintain positive professional relationships 

Excellent organizational skills, time management and sound judgment

Solid writing ability, attention to detail and decision-making skills

Excellent computer skills with experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software

Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
