We’re looking for a Data Governance Advisor to support the continuous improvement and uplift of data governance across Suncorp New Zealand. In this role, you’ll help develop, implement, and improve data governance frameworks, policies, procedures, and controls—working closely with Data Stewards, Custodians, and business stakeholders to ensure data is well managed, trusted, and fit for purpose.
This is a collaborative role that sits at the intersection of business, data, and risk, with a strong focus on consistency, quality, and value.
Key responsibilities
- Build a strong understanding of the internal and external business environment to ensure data governance practices align with business needs.
- Support and work closely with Data Stewards across New Zealand.
- Engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels of seniority across Suncorp NZ.
- Assist in documenting critical data and identifying systems where data is captured, used, transformed, and stored.
- Provide input into high-level solution designs to ensure data governance standards are met.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, address compliance gaps, and manage data-related risks.
- Participate in and support the Data Steward Council and Data Domain Working Groups to help resolve data issues.
About you
- Previous experience in data governance, or a strong understanding of data governance requirements.
- Experience documenting processes and business rules in a clear, engaging, and accessible way.
- Experience within General Insurance is desirable.
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and align work to business needs.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams and multi-channel environments.
- A continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to identify and help implement business improvements.
